BrazilBeat Sound System

Spiked with plenty of guarana, BrazilBeat Sound System is a high-caffeine rush from head to toe. A rising international talent on the cutting edge of roots and dance music, this DJ / percussion live-act originated in San Francisco, California in 2000, bringing the upbeat sound to Aotearoa New Zealand the following year.

Internationally renowned Brazilian percussionist Nego Beto created the project after touring, recording, producing and educating in five continents over his 20 year music career. Highlights include touring with reggae legends The Wailers, creating and producing the first Reggae MTV, and playing with dozens of high profile bands. His hard-case MC style and riveting performances on congas, timbales, bongos, drum machines and varied percussion instruments send audiences to delerium.

DJ Mara infuses captivating Brazilian melodies with thunderous basslines. The BBSS live sound is a mashup of funk, house, breaks, dub, roots & drum ‘n bass. Tight percussive arrangements complete the picture.

BrazilBeat’s original tracks are awakening increased interest across the globe; their original tracks have been released in the USA, Brazil, Japan and New Zealand.

After eight years of playing live BBSS scooped up the many indluences that inspire them and cranked out their debut full length album "Nova" on their own indie label Belezza Records..

Prior to the album, the track “Rain, featuring Sparlha Swa” was featured on the Brazilian compilation Bits Sessions (Nikita Music-“2004), which was then relased in Japan in 2005 (Ward Records). “Rain” and “Capoeira Dub” came out on the Kaiti Collective in New Zealand(Te Toka-2004), and three other NZ compilations have featured “Rain”: Resolution (AD Recordings-2005), Jambalaya (Bench-2005), and Twilight Sessions (Tuborg-2006).

Nego Beto & Mara also write the Brazil Beat column in The Beat Magazine (USA), bringing the newest trends in Brazilian music to tens of thousands of readers.
